The vendor worked for British Rail from 1973-1991. From early 1974 to late 1987, he worked in the Architect's Department and was responsible for completing the signing change from brown and cream to black and white on the Western Region. These few signs were rescued from rubbish skips.

An Original Southern Railway 'Schools' Class Locomotive Nameplate 'Christ's Hospital', a cast brass plate from Locomotive no 913 (later BR 30913), built in 1933 and withdrawn in 1962, in good ex-locomotive condition, with red background to lettering and black outer edging to plate; purchased for £15 by an employee at the Eastleigh works at the time that the locomotive was scrapped and thence by descent; currently mounted for the auction view on a modern display stand attached through original fixing holes; the counterpart nameplate is believed to be in the possession of Christ's Hospital School

An Original Great Western Railway 'Saint' Class Locomotive Nameplate 'Talisman', iron and brass, from locomotive no 2989, built in 1905 initially as a 4-4-2 for comparison with the French compound Atlantics, later converted to a standard 4-6-0 and running until September 1948; the counterpart nameplate is believed to be at the 'Steam' Museum, Swindon; the nameplate offered is in good condition with polished lettering and some repainting to painted areas, and comes with a packet containing copies of the National Archive records relating to this engine
